Do you consider the location when taking photos for your blog? If you don’t, then I’d suggest you consider considering it. Lol
Besides your outfits, the locations in which you choose to shoot said outfits matter the most. They convey a message to your audience about what you like and what’s important to your overall aesthetic. In order to have real impact, your photograph should tell a story or deliver a message. What would you like your audience to “get” about the shot?
When I began blogging in 2012 I didn’t know how important my surroundings were to my blogging success. In the past, the only thing that mattered to me when heading out to blog was the weather. As long as the sun was shinning, I was happy to capture my outfits anywhere. In my back garden, on the pavement, right in front of my front door, anywhere really.
So here are a few questions to ask yourself when picking a location for your outfit pictures:
1.) What is my main goal for an overall picture?
2.) Do I want to colour, monochrome, earthy tones or a bit of everything?
3.) Do I want a quite or busy surrounding?
4.) Is the lighting balanced?
5.) Do I want shallow depth of field, or would the shot look better if everything is in focus?
So, there are quite a few things to consider if you want an impactful and well thought out shot. As you can see, I considered what would go perfectly with my outfit choice (amongst other things) and decided that Peggy Porschen’s cake shop would be the perfect backdrop. So just take your time and consider what message you would like to deliver.
Have a great weekend Ribbons!
