Whenever I think of all the things that I want to achieve, I get excited and ready to jump head first, but shortly after, a wave of doubt, fear and mild anxiety wash over me. Can I really achieve that? What will people think? Will it be a success? What if it flops? Blah, blah, blah…
A wise person once told me “You won’t be human if you didn’t have doubts.” And that statement has stuck with me ever since. We all have an inner gremlin and an inner guide. Our inner gremlin usually has more to say on the negative spectrum and we tend to listen to him more often than not. Our inner guide is usually the quieter voice that spurs us on, sees our potential and spurs us on. Listen to your inner guide no matter how low her voice is. If you never try, you’ll never succeed.
Even if what you’re attempting to do seems grandiose, just try and focus on what it is that you CAN do, rather than what you CAN’T. Honour your limitations, but don’t focus solely on them. I’m sure you’ve heard it so many times, but use what you have. I’ve always wanted to keep my YouTube channel going but I felt that YouTube itself was so saturated. I didn’t have the camera I wanted to record with, no ring light for bomb videos, no final cut pro, nothing. I have a smart phone, so why not use it? I have daylight, so why not use it? I have iMovies, so why not use it?
Utilise! *clap* Utilise! *clap* Utilise! *clap*
I kept listening to my inner gremlin and feeding my self doubt. But I urge you to starve it guys, it honestly needs no more calories than it already has. It is okay to feel frustrated, sad or angry about our situations but I’ve learnt how to give my frustrations minimal time, before moving on. We all have limitations but whether our limitations come from within, or are inflicted upon us, they should force us to dig deeper and find our strengths. I hope today is the day that you find the strength to do whatever it is that you want to do.
