It can be difficult to know who is being genuine and who is doing it all for the likes, follows and attention, but what I must say is that in life, you just have to focus on your goals and work on your skills, because that’s when your talents will shine through. If you’re working on something and it doesn’t seem to be taking off, but you know deep down that you have what it takes, then just keep going. Don’t look at others who you feel are doing better because of how ‘deep’ they seem to be. At the end of the day, I believe that if you’re good at something, you will eventually get recognition you deserve. A lot of people who seem deep and genuine are mere puddles in disguise.
“Those who know they are deep strive for clarity. Those who would like to seem deep to the crowd strive for obscurity. For the crowd takes everything whose ground it cannot see, to be deep. It is so timid and so reluctant to go into the water.” — Aphorism 173, Cambridge UP edition (2001) of THE GAY SCIENCE.
